21-year-old Savannah Oglethorpe and her 4-year-old daughter, Marietta, live with her parents, Columbus and Lizella Oglethorpe. Marietta works 25 hours a week at the Krusty Krab and makes $15.00 an hour. She attends Greendale Community College majoring in Retail Management. Savannah attends head start and her paternal grandmother, Pooler, provides free child care when needed.
Marietta’s father, Rome, recently died in an auto collision with a bitch ass deer. Unfortunately, Rome had not paid enough into Social Security to qualify for benefits. He did not have life insurance. Because of this, Marietta does not receive any benefits from her father, and they had to move back in with Savannah’s parents. Savannah has applied for Food Stamps and Medicaid for herself and her daughter.
Columbus is disabled and receives $2285 a month in Social Security Disability. He receives no retirement and no other income. Lizella works full-time at Slate Rock and Gravel making $21.00 an hour.
Columbus and Lizella pay a monthly mortgage of $1250 a month that includes property insurance and property taxes. They do not charge Savannah rent but do charge her $150 a month for electricity that is used to heat and cool the home.
Because Savannah is under the age of 22, she must include her parents and their income in her Food Stamp application.
However, she does not have to include them in her Medicaid application.
