Why does DFCS need my address for Food Stamps?

To apply for Food Stamps in Georgia, you must be a Georgia Resident, so you are required to verify you where live or intend to live.

How do I verify my address for DFCS?

⦁ DFCS can access the Department of Driver Services database to verify you have a current Georgia Driver’s license or ID card.
⦁ A copy of your mortgage statement or lease agreement
⦁ Any rent or utility bills
⦁ School records (of yourself or anyone else you’re applying for including your children)
⦁ A statement from someone who knows you
⦁ Any piece of current mail with your name and address
⦁ Any other document proving residency (Basically, there is a good bit of leeway with proving residency.)

How often do I have provide verification of my address for DFCS?

At your initial application and any time you move.

What if my mailing address is different from my home address?

⦁ You only need to provide verification of where you live.
⦁ However, if you don’t provide your mailing address then don’t be surprised when your food stamps get cut off because you didn’t get your renewal notice.
⦁ If your case manager notices you have another address on another agency’s database, they may ask you to verify which address is correct.

How do I prove I live in Georgia if I’m homeless?

My mom didn’t tell me I had mail from DFCS and my Stamps closed!

*side note: if you get your mail at someone else’s house, it is not their job to bring your mail, call you about your mail, message you about your mail, be responsible for your mail.
You are a grown ass person and are responsible for your shit. So don’t complain to your caseworker that your mama didn’t give you your mail, so your stamps got closed.
It’s your problem for expecting someone else to handle your business
