You can apply for any programs you are interested in, but you will only be approved if you meet all qualifications.
Below is a breakdown of all programs available through DFCS listed on page 3 of the application.
Food Stamps: Food assistance for any qualifying U.S. citizen who meets income and other requirements
TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families): Monthly cash payment to families with children under the age of 16. Monthly payments are very low and the head of household can only receive benefits for 48 months in a lifetime.
GRG (Grandparents Raising Children): Assistance for grandparents raising their grandchildren.`
Refugee Cash Assistance: For refugees who do not qualify for TANF. (Refugees ARE NOT undocumented immigrants or “illegals.” Refugees include people seeking asylum, human trafficking victims, and people who assisted the U.S. in military operations.)
Medicaid: Medical assistance for people who meet income and other requirements. There are five different types of Medicaid:
- Right from the Start Medicaid: for pregnant women
- Newborn Medicaid: 12 month program for newborns whose mother received Medicaid during her pregnancy
- Family Medicaid: for children under the age of 19
- Low Income Medicaid: for parents and their children under the age of 19
- Aged, Blind, Disabled (ABD) Medicaid: for people over the age of 65, people who qualify for SSI or RSDI through Social Security, and people who are legally blind
