When people discover I was a Food Stamp case manager, they ask me how they can get some Food Stamps for themselves. I tell them to quit their jobs with their retirement plans, 401ks, and sick leave. Go to work under the table and report they aren’t working and don’t have any bills.
Getting Food Stamps usually requires giving up any idea of stability people worked for in the first place. Then they can spend time renewing their Food Stamps every six months while trying to get someone to answer a phone at an agency that can’t keep people hired, much less trained.
To date, I have yet to see anyone quit their job so they can live off the government benefits. So when people start babbling on about people doing exactly that, ask them to name examples or give some statistics. They can’t because it’s low-key bullshit they’re repeating from Fox New to make themselves feel superior. Everyone knows the smart people get rich from getting contracts with the government, not welfare.
Remember, people who complain about welfare cheats, either are welfare cheats, were welfare cheats, or would be welfare cheats if they thought they could get away with it. They also owe child support somewhere. Don’t let those people shame you.
